Ride into Spring | Mentougou Riding Route Inventory!

Mentougou in springtime is a paradise for cyclists, with flowers and greenery in the mountains. Two cycling routes in Mentougou were selected for the 2024 “China Cycling Map”. Mentougou not only has winding mountain roads and fresh air, but also has ancient temples and villages and a continuous sea of flowers. This issue of small editor for you to select four spring riding routes, covering the novice friendly and advanced challenges, take you to unlock the most beautiful spring scenery in western Beijing!  

1.Miaofeng Mountain Road Riding Line - The most beautiful track in western Beijing

Route: Miaofengshan Township Danli Village Pai Lou → Miaofengshan Scenic Area Parking Lot  

Length/climb: about 20 kilometers, with a cumulative climb of 868 meters.  

Featured Highlights:  

- Friendly signage: 11 new rose-colored cycling signboards and 53 ground spray paintings for clear navigation, safety and convenience.  

- Race-level experience: for two consecutive years as a stage of the Beijing Cycling League, challenging and scenic at the same time. 

- Spring Flower Sea: Along the way, you can enjoy alpine roses, wild lilacs and mountain peach blossoms, and climb to the top to overlook the mountains in a picturesque manner.  

- Suitable for: intermediate and advanced cyclists, for lovers of climbing challenges and natural scenery.

2. Tam Wang Road Loop - A Literary Ride Through Ancient Temples and a Sea of Flowers

Route: Ringtai Temple → Tanzhe Temple → Wangping Township  

Length/climb: nearly 70 kilometers, with a cumulative climb of more than 680 meters  

Featured Highlights:  

- Cultural Journey: Passing through the thousand-year-old temple Tanzhe Temple, the red walls and magnolias reflect each other, feeling the Zen and spring colors blend together.  

- Net red card: stopping at Snow Peak Cafe, coffee and mountain scenery, riding can also be a small capitalist cozy.  

- Flower Tunnel: Magnolia and apricot blossoms are in full bloom along the road, which makes you feel like riding through the pink clouds and haze.  

- Suitable for: Beginners to intermediate riders, suitable for families or friends.

3. Tanzhe Temple - Dingduge Section (must be brushed for advancement)

Route: Tanzhe Temple → Shangvidian Village → Dingduge 

Length/climb: about 18 kilometers throughout (more uphill sections)

Characteristic highlights:  

- Unique beauty of the scenery: the ancient trees of Tanzhe Temple are newly green in spring, and the peaceful atmosphere of the temple is refreshing.

- Leisurely B&B: Entering Shangvidian Village, there are quite a number of characteristic B&Bs in the village, where you can make a short stop.

- Panoramic view: Climbing to the top of Dingdu Peak, Chang'an Street and Yongding River are in full view, and the Dingdu Pavilion is as bright as a star at night.

- Suitable for people: cyclists who have some cycling experience and enjoy challenging climbs.

4.109 National Highway Riding (Classic Riding Route)

Route: 109 National Highway (Mentougou section) → Zaitang Town → Baiyanggou → Ling Shan feet

Length/climbing: about 50 kilometers (can be adjusted according to physical strength)

Featured Highlights:   

Riverside Departure: Starting from Mentougou urban area, ride along Yongding River, passing through Sanjiadian Reservoir, the blue rippling wetland accompanied by the ecological landscape of swaying cattails.

- Ancient Village: Arrive at Jaitang Town, this Ming and Qing Dynasty ancient village preserves the “Eight Scenes of Lingshui” and the culture of the Jurist, with stone paths intertwined with courtyard houses, you can feel the historical flavor of the western part of Beijing by riding here.  

- The secret mountainous area of Baiyanggou is deep in the west, with deep canyons, gurgling streams, peach blossoms and apricot blossoms in the spring, so you can enjoy the natural fun.  

- Suitable for: Long-distance cyclists and cyclists with good physical strength.
