The "Weight Management Year" campaign has begun, and the Beijing International Bicycle Exhibition invites you to "ride" towards a healthy future

During the two sessions, at the press conference on the theme of people's livelihood at the third session of the 14th National People's Congress, Lei Haichao, director of the National Health Commission, said that he would continue to promote the three-year action of "Weight Management Year", with the core goal of reducing the rate of overweight and obesity, promoting healthy diet, active participation in exercise and other good lifestyles and habits in the whole society.

How cycling can help control weight

Cycling is an aerobic exercise that efficiently burns calories. Taking a person weighing 70 kilograms as an example, cycling 20 to 25 kilometers per hour can consume about 500 to 700 kilocalories, equivalent to 80% to 90% of jogging, but with lower fatigue. This sustained energy expenditure directly reduces body fat reserves through fat oxidation (aerobic energy supply system). In addition, during cycling, the main muscle groups such as the quadriceps, gluteus maximus, and gastrocnemius continue to do work. For every 1 kilogram increase in muscle mass, the daily basal metabolic rate increases by about 21 kcal. The resting metabolic rate of long-term cyclists can be 5% to 7% higher than that of sedentary individuals.
Cycling effectively balances sports benefits and safety. Cycling disperses weight through seat cushions and handles, allowing the lower limb joints to bear only about 10% of the weight load, significantly reducing the pressure on the human body. When cycling, the human knee, hip, and ankle joints can maintain a certain degree of flexion to ensure that the joints are in a better stress state during movement. Therefore, cycling is also suitable for overweight individuals with BMI ≥ 25 and those who need joint protection.

Cycling covers multiple populations and multiple life cycles

The "Weight Management Year" Implementation Plan jointly formulated by 16 departments including the National Health Commission mentions the systematic health management strategy of "whole life cycle weight management". Cycling is suitable for people of all ages, from children, adults to the elderly: children can promote bone development through cycling, teenagers can choose cycling as a commuting method to school and work, and middle-aged and elderly people can choose low-intensity cycling to prevent chronic diseases and maintain vitality. With the increasing popularity of cycling, especially among young people, cycling is not only a sport, but also an emerging social and lifestyle trend.

Spring is coming, and the warm weather is just right for free cycling. Let's join the "Weight Management Year" campaign this spring and embark on a healthy weight loss journey with cycling!
